harold park, nsw
Harold Park is a significant renewal project in a prime inner city location which is a high quality and sustainable addition to the local urban fabric. The precinct comprises about one third of the site as publicly accessible open space, with the completed development accommodating approximately 2,500 residents and approximately 500 workers.
The site provides a significant addition to the adjacent network of public open spaces providing places for relaxation and recreation. In particular, the adaptive reuse of the heritage tram depot, the award-winning Tramsheds, forms a local community hub and exciting commercial revitalisation serving the local community.
Following the comprehensive site masterplan and planning control process which was established through Council, Mirvac, HASSELL and Aspect Studios, the site has been developed in stages and with a collaborative approach, portioned into precincts for staging and to create a mix of architectural solutions.
Engaged by Mirvac to work with Mirvac Design as lead architect, PTW, Eeles Trelease, Smart Design Studio and SJB Architects possessed the qualities and experience to prepare the appropriate design solution to achieve ‘design excellence’ in accordance with the intent of the requirements of the Harold Park LEP planning controls.
Mirvac was mindful of the special nature of the site and the benefit of selecting firms with a demonstrated ability to collaborate with Mirvac Design to achieve design excellence given the site’s importance to the City of Sydney, and the broader community. The result is a true collaboration, creating this vibrant urban precinct which links through to the foreshore and harbour, connecting established green spaces, and has allowed the rejuvenation and celebration of an iconic heritage building.
